President's Message for November 2011

Picture

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year and with it comes cooler weather! I am enjoying cooler temperatures more than ever before and I am sure most of you are as well.

We had a wonderful turnout for our first meeting of the year which was held on October 4 in Haskell. There were 11 members present and by the end of the meeting there were 12 because a new sister
was initiated into DKG…..Welcome Pamela Hall!

“Collections from All Over” was the theme of our program. Several members brought items they have acquired
over the years and told about their passion for collecting them. Nancy Toliver brought her collection of miniature cars to signify Bailey and Nancy years of owning a car dealership. Nancy also brought a sampling of plates and picture albums from her travels all over the world. Lou Vail brought her unique collection of“Pie Birds”. These vintage items were used in pies to keep them from bubbling over in the stove. Sherry Hacker’s collection anything to do with “dairy”such as old churns and butter presses which she began collecting when she and Clifford owned the Dairy Farm. Judy Burnett’s unique collection of clowns and music boxes was shown to members. One unusual piece beautifully played “Send in the Clowns”. Lastly, I brough some of my collection of "sand” from places such as Kuwaiit, England, The Leaning Tower of Pisa and Mar’s Hill in Rome. This collection began as a unit to teach in school to 4th graders who had never seen beach sand and has grown to over 60 samples from all over the world.

Our November meeting will be coming up soon. We will join together in Knox City at the Foursquare Church
Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, the 1st at 5:30. Don’t forget to bring your Auction Items as well as sticky notes for our service project. I hope we can have a great turn out in November!

President's Message for May

Dear Beta Chi Sisters,

What a wonderful
opportunity to able to attend as well as network during last month’s joint
meeting with our neighboring chapter Beta Sigma! Twelve Beta Chi sisters
traveled over to Seymour at 4:30 on Monday April 11 to take part in a delightful
program on Floral Arranging with Pam Jackson, owner of Texas Floral in Seymour
followed by Cake Decorating with DKG member Donna Carver.  The best part was
getting to eat that beautiful cake afterwards.  Also, congrats to our own Debbie
Miller for having her number drawn in the door prize and getting to take that
gorgeous flower arrangement home.

As your
Chapter President, I have been completing an application for the Presidential
Award for Chapter Excellence (PACE).  I am reminded over and over of the
achievements and growth of Beta Chi this past year!  We have had so many
accomplishments!  We have increased membership as eight new members were
initiated into DKG along with one former member rejoining our society after
moving back into our area!  Our attendance has been outstanding at each meeting
– averaging around 15! Members have attended the Texas State Organization annual
meeting in Waco as well as the Area 16 meeting in Decatur. Our Beta Chi Beat
Newsletter received the 5 Star Award for Outstanding Chapter Newsletter – Great
job Amanda Adkins, editor as well as the Early Bird Award for Chapter Yearbooks
– Thanks Sherry Hacker!  Wow!  I could go on and on.  Congratulations Beta Chi
for a job well done!

Our next meeting is coming
up!  Saturday, May 7, 2011 @ 12 noon.  We will join together in Munday at the
1st United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for a noon luncheon. Munday members
will bring a meat or salad dish and all other members will bring desserts,
crackers, fruit, etc.  Don’t forget to bring along items for our Chapter
Project…this month is Hand Sanitizer.  Hope to see you all on the
7th.

For Beta
Chi,

Marsha

President's April Message

Picture
Dear Society Sister,
Here we are reading our April Newsletter!  This means we have finished our Spring Breaks and are just a few weeks away from the end of school and summer!
We all enjoyed our March meeting in Knox City at the Four Square Fellowship hall.  Eight of our members met on Saturday morning for a delicious brunch followed by a program of re-orientation into DKG.  The purpose of the program was to remind members of the important roles we play and why we continue to maintain membership with such a prestigious organization.
Looking ahead to our April 11th meeting, make plans now to carpool over to Seymour and join with our neighboring sister chapter Beta Sigma.  We are to arrive at 4:30 at the Seymour High School Library “on the hill” for a program on cake decorating followed by a light supper. The best part I have been told will be to eat the cake for our dessert.  I hope that most of us can attend and have a great representation for Beta Chi.
For Beta Chi,
Marsha

President's March Message

Picture

Dear Beta Chi Sisters,
We haven’t had a chance to visit since our newsletter in December but we are all now back into the full swing of things and eagerly anticipate the arrival of Spring and warmer weather!

I just completed the DKG Chapter President’s Annual Report and was so pleased at what all our Beta Chi Chapter has accomplished this past year. Our chapter has initiated new members, we continue to support projects for educational excellence, we use technology to communicate with each other and finally….we have maintained great attendance at all of our meetings……86%.  Wow!

Our next Beta Chi Chapter meeting will be held in Knox City on Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 at the Foursquare Church Fellowship Hall. We will all enjoy a brunch together followed by a re-orientation of why we belong to such a prestigious group of women.  Keep in mind also that March is Beta Chi’s Birthday month. Our chapter was established in 1936 by Eula Lee Carter and still going strong today in 2011!

Don’t forget to bring your recipes for our Chapter Cookbook.  I will have extra forms in case you want to submit more recipes.  See you all in Knox City on March 5!

For Beta Chi,

Marsha

December President's Message

Picture
Dear Society Sisters,
There are no words to describe how special the November meeting was as we celebrated the memories of our Beta Chi sisters, Irma Liles, Jo Cox, Alice Partridge and Maxine Hamilton. Following a beautiful candlelit ceremony led by Leona Partridge, members shared their memories of these ladies and how they were inspired and encouraged by them throughout the years.  The Celebration of Memories was then followed by an Initiation of new member Bergen Webb of Knox City.  Bergen teaches 2nd Grade at Knox City Elementary. Bergen will bring a lot of energy and creativity to our Society.  Welcome Bergen!
We had a great turnout for the November meeting which took place in the Old Bank Building in downtown Goree. Nineteen members were present!  Kent and Tammy Trainham have taken this old landmark and restored it to its former glory and we appreciate their generosity in letting us meet there.
I can’t believe our Beta Chi year is almost half way through. The next few meetings are going to be great! Stay posted to our chapter website; www.betachibeat.weebly.com and don’t forget to check dates and times on your “Meetings at a Glance” postcards for the remainder of our meetings.
It’s truly an honor to serve as the President of Beta Chi, a society of amazing women!  In closing, I want to wish you and yours a Blessed Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year!
For Beta Chi,
Marsha

President's November Message

We kicked off another Beta Chi Year with our first meeting on October 2nd in Knox City and what a meeting it was…Sixteen members in attendance.  The room was full and it looked great! Thank you all for making time on your Sunday afternoon to attend.

Come grow with Beta Chi! Educators are most effective when empowered. That is why we provide opportunities to foster the professional development and personal growth of our members. During the year, you can take advantage of a variety of workshops and seminars on subjects such as leadership, time management, making presentations and using technology in the classroom. Beta Chi Members can also get involved in Chapter activities coming up such as being a committee member of our 75th Anniversary Cookbook as well as our Service Project of embracing women teachers new to our local schools by providing them with welcome bags. The opportunities are limitless!

Tuesday, November 2 at 5:30 is the date and time for our next meeting.  The Old Bank Building in Goree will be the place for our Ceremony of Remembrance to our members who we have recently lost.  Also, in keeping with tradition, we will conduct our annual Silent Auction.  Bring a gift item for the holidays, Thanksgiving or Christmas items would be great whether décor, baskets or baked goods.
Hope to see you all on Tuesday!
For Beta Chi,
Marsha

President's October Message

Picture
Fall Greetings Beta Chi!
I am so excited to begin the 2010–2012 biennium of Delta Kappa Gamma as your Chapter President and to share with you the many plans and events that are already underway for our Chapter!
Your Beta Chi Executive Committee met in July and again in September to plan exciting programs for the year as well as discussing ways to make our chapter more innovative by incorporating suggestions from the Successful Chapter Model published by The Society.
(1)        Communication: Your chapter committees will communicate with members in multiple ways. Still in place are Newsletters and telephone but we will begin using email to get the information out to members as well as minimize paper use and decrease postage expense . The chapter will also use the internet. We are especially proud to be the owners of our very own website!  Please check us out at
http://betachibeat.weebly.com.  There you will find all of the newest information. We want this to be a place for us to interact and stay up to date with Society information as well as the highlights of our own members. Check there often for news about up and coming meetings, chapter highlights, links to other State and International websites, and even an occasional recipe or two. Please send information to me at: marshaquade@yahoo.com. and I will get it posted.
(2)        Meetings: Another modification made for the upcoming year has been to change our meeting dates and times.  According to the Successful Chapter Model, meetings take place at varied times, days, and places convenient for working members. Be looking for a postcard to come in the mail that you can place on your refrigerator as a handy reminder of meeting times and dates. Your Executive Committee hopes this will accommodate more of our members.
(3)        Support: We will support projects that actively engage members.  Two projects members will be involved in this year will be to collect items for new women teachers in the area and the compilation of a Chapter cookbook honoring 75 years of Beta Chi!
Attending the 81st Alpha State Convention this summer in Waco, myself along with other Delta Kappa Gamma members continued to be reminded of Dr. Vickie Davis’ theme – Advancing the Society…Believe,Engage, Learn, Lead.  As the year progresses, your participation and commitment will confirm our chapter’s belief in the society.  I am looking forward to an unbelievable year with you…my colleagues, my friends, my Beta Chi sisters!

For Beta Chi,

Marsha

New Society/Chapter Brochure

Informative brochures have been created for Chapter Beta Chi in order to reach out to possible new members.  The tri-fold brochure gives details about who were are, our contact information, membership qualifications, the link to our new website as well as the seven Purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma and other pertinent information. The pamphlets were placed along with DKG engraved red pencil into boxes of lady teachers new to the Districts in our Area. Go to the Forms section of this website where you will find the link to download and view the new Chapter Brochure.

Important Membership Changes

Important Membership Changes At the International Convention in Spokane, members voted on several proposed revisions to the Consitution. One of the biggest changes approved is regarding membership. The revised membership requirements now say this:
Article III Section B 1 now states "An active member shall be a woman who is employed as a professional educator or who has been retired from an educational position." This means that the chapter decides on any restrictions on time of service. Women are eligible during their first year of service AND ANY year of retirement. (statement taken from the Alpha State website).
Please go to our Resources section and click on Alpha State or International websites for more information.
